Jason Wu: Channeling Power & Femininity

With New York Fashion Week opening September 13, 2020, all eyes were on Jason Wu to see what new and innovative designs he had in store for us.  Since debuting in 2007, Jason Wu has continued to wow crowds with his designs that promised to make women show off their “POWER AND FEMININITY”.

His runway set, located on a New York high rise overlooking the city, gave an island beach façade of a boardwalk surrounded by a plethora of palms, tropical fronds, and beautiful greens. Soothing and mystifying music played and hypnotized his viewers as his models strolled out in relaxed and flowing sundresses, loose-fitting pants that flowed in harmony with matching tops and cascading winds…some even resembled beach coverings and draping moo-moos.  Every outfit was suitable for easy strolls on the beach or a marina, just in time for the Spring/Summer 2021 year.

With 2020 having been a year of defined social-distancing, Jason Wu brought a promising breath of fresh air with his solid vivid colors of green, neon yellow, pink, blue, and orange in a cascade of light summery fabrics, also in patterns of flowers and stripes.  His models are accessorized with large summer hats worn on their heads, or mostly hanging loosely around their necks welcoming the sun and open air.

Noticeable styles were rompers with accordion-style pleats at the neckline, pockets, and waist, a form-fitting light weight sweater dress, and sun dresses adorned with cropped midriff tank tops.  All his ensembles were worn comfortably with various universal sandals.  They are perfect attires for a day at the beach, socializing on your deck, or relaxing on a yacht!

At the end of his runway, Jason Wu followed his models at a safe distance adorned with a facial covering barely hiding his youthful face and giving the deception of a man much younger than someone in his 30s.  Yet, his many accolades in fashion, including a 2016 International Designer of the Year award at the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards, clearly shows that his advanced contributions to the world of fashion is promising, inspiring, and exciting.  His fashion line has been worn by influential women all over the world, including First Lady Michelle Obama, actress Julianne Moore, and model Christy Turlington, amongst so many others.
