Since delving into fashion in recent months, I’ve learned to be particular about designers who I choose to write about. While the more established names may be a no-brainer for most writers, I prefer designers who are disruptors. Looking through a list of designers earlier this month, I was stunned by the creations by Yina Hwang. Within minutes, I contacted Haneen Hatem, Fashion Production & Marketing Senior Coordinator at PLITZS Fashion Marketing. I needed to see her designs up close and personal, and I wanted to write an article about the affair. I was uncertain if I would be granted access, but thoroughly pleased when I was given the green light.

What makes Yina Hwang’s designs powerful and unique, is her ability to weave together contrasting elements: the vulgar and the sublime, the dull and the vibrant, and so forth. This, in fact is her stock in trade. Most designers will utilize contrasting colors for effect, but what Yina does is far beyond that. It is harmony she seeks to imbue each of her creations with, and in that endeavor, she succeeds marvelously. The designs I’ve witnessed at her Skyline Hotel presentation, as well as what I’ve seen of her previous wares, are a testament to the fact that the Yina Hwang brand is a true labor of love and imagination.
